This summer’s experience is specially designed for the 13-17 year old student who is interested in art, artists and creative ways of thinking. The kick-off event will be a field trip to Frederic Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, which is a botanical garden that exhibits Michigan’s greatest sculptural art garden exhibiting famous works from world renowned artists. The following days will teach students tip and techniques in fabric dyeing, ceramic printmaking, glass fusing and sculpture that are innovative and fun. Students will develop their own project from start to finish, using studio equipment and expertise of the residents on campus to complete and exhibit their projects. An art opening in a community space will happen at a date to be determined, when all of the projects are ready for view.

Julia Tomaro is an award winning art teacher, who has taught for 40 years, obtaining her BFA from University of Michigan as well as graduate degree in Art ED.
