The Art and Science of Winemaking - Basic


Thursdays: October 26; November 2, 9, 16, 21, 30; December 7
6:00 – 8:00 PM
located in Studio 44

This course is a special topics course dealing with the production and appreciation of wine. Each session will consist of a brief lecture, demonstration or tutorial followed by a workshop in which participants, working in pairs, will produce and bottle a 23 liter (30 bottles) batch of a wine of their choice.

Students will also create their own unique wine labels with personalized imagery and message using letterpress and printmaking methods.

Participants will learn:
 The characteristics of varietals
 How to produce quality wines at home
 How to test the wine during production
 How to use Letterpress to design and produce labels

All required course materials and consumables, e.g., grape juice (must), additives, yeast, clarifiers, fermentation vessels, bottles, corks and hoods and equipment will be provided. It is critical that participants register for the course, make their wine selection and pay the fees no later than October 21st to allow time for ordering and delivery of the materials.
