An arts club for teens aged 13-17 is beginning this fall at the Adrian Center for the Arts (ACA). This opportunity is generously funded by the Lenawee Youth Council of the Lenawee Community Foundation and Kappa Kappa Epsilon.
The club will meet on Thursdays from 4- 6 p.m. in the ACA Youth Studio located in the Gallery Building 46. Students will have a chance to learn a variety of art techniques as well as travel to the Toledo Museum of Art during the span of the Club. Classes include:
1st session: An introduction to the class and an art lesson working with watercolor.
2nd session: Watercolor and mixed media collage with a focus on Michigan Artist Michelle Word and use of texture in watercolor.
3rd session: Students will be traveling to the Toledo Art Museum to study its collections and obtain inspiration for three-dimensional shapes and form.
4th session: A balsa wood balance project that creates shadow sculptures.
5th session: Acrylic paint on canvas, including taking a collage narrative to painting with a focus on artist Ben Duke.
6th session: Explore fiber arts and the design element of variation with natural dyeing with a focus on artist Sheila Hicks.
The instructor is Andrea Marsh who many students will remember from the ACA Summer Camp.
Transportation to teen club is available from Adrian Middle and High Schools through services donated by First Student. All teens will need to arrange their own transportation home.
