Oct 28 INTRODUCTION TO BOROSILICATE GLASS

IMPORTANT: Students taking glass courses must wear natural fiber clothing (i.e., cotton shirt and denim jeans), closed toe shoes and hair tied back and out of the way. Loose clothing that will be in the way
of the torch is strongly discouraged.

Prerequisite Class: Introduction to Glass Beadmaking or Permission of Instructor

An introduction to working borosilicate glass. Using an oxygen-propane torch, students will learn the basic techniques and seals used for working borosilicate glass. These seals and techniques once mastered are the foundation of scientific and artistic glassblowing and will help enable students to implement their creative visions for lampworking. Safety, technique and form will be covered. Students enrolling in the class are strongly recommended to sign up for glass lab to build upon techniques learned in this and the previous course.
